Western States is one of the most famous 100 mile trail race in the world. Starting high in the Sierra at Olympic Valley near Tahoe, the course weaves alpine trails before descending along the American River. The boundaries of this map frame that topography, including the high ridges of the Sierra and the watershed of the Middle Fork American River.
