Scraped out by glaciers of the last Ice Age, Pend Orielle is a stunning lake set in the mountains. The largest lake in Idaho, it is the fifth 5th deepest in the US, the depth making it an excellent place for the navy submarine base there.
Location: Northern Idaho Panhandle, Sandpoint
