Mt St Helens | Profile Map

Mt St Helens, located in southern Washington near Portland. The massive eruption in 1980, is the most destructive in the history of the United States. This profile map shows the northern slopes.

Profile Maps show a familiar outline in a new perspective. These maps are made by creating a digital 3D model, using the same high resolution elevation data as our birds-eye view maps. This model can be rotated, allowing the map to be viewed in profile.

Profile map have a photographic quality, but all shading is from the elevation data. Rock, glacier, meadow are all shaded based solely by elevation. This gives a clear and unique perspective on terrain, and views that may never be possible to observe without this type of profile map.
